Location: Edmonton, Alberta
Term: As needed from September 2025 – June 2026
Hourly Wage: $45.00/hour
Hours: Monday-Wednesday, and Friday from 2:30-6:30 pm, Thursday from 11:30 am-3:30 pm

Job Summary:
The YONA-Sistema Substitute Teaching Artists (Strings/Woodwinds/Brass/Percussion/Choir) are responsible for providing music instruction to groups of up to 20 students on a scheduled substitute and/or on-call basis and work collaboratively with the YONA team to provide support for all students in the program.
The Teaching Artist will work at YONA-Sistema community sites during specified hours.
What you will do:
- Provide instrumental music instruction to a group of up to 20 students
- Assist students with academic work, supervise break and snack times
- Other duties as assigned
Qualifications:
- Advanced training in Woodwinds, Viola, Violin, Brass, or Choir
- Post-secondary education in music performance or education preferred
- Previous experience teaching choir
- Previous experience teaching groups of children
- Clear criminal record check including vulnerable sector search
Competencies:
- General knowledge of elementary academic curriculum expectations
- Additional experience and/or interest in arranging, improvisation, conducting, composing an asset
- Knowledge of the El Sistema philosophy and awareness of music for social change programs
- Interest in social justice and knowledge of current trends in equity, diversity, and inclusion
